Addis Ababa is sharing Enkutatash with the diplomatic community this week. From September 7 to 10, more than 50 embassies are hosting New Year greeting ceremonies ahead of 2019 E.C.
The program is co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Sport. On Monday ceremonies took place at embassies including Mali, Canada, Slovakia, Jordan, Sudan, Poland, Israel, Hungary, the UK, Oman, the Netherlands and Belgium.
Cultural troupes performed the traditional dance “Abeba Ayeyshi Wey?” and guests received Ethiopian handicrafts and coffee. Diplomats noted how Ethiopia’s calendar stands out internationally and wished the public a peaceful and hopeful year.
