Addis is getting ready for the New Year, and this week you do not have to fight Merkato traffic just for handmade gifts.
About 150 Ethiopian artisans are set up at Friendship Park Phase II, right in front of Abrehot Library. The open air bazaar runs September 5 to 10, every day from 9am to 6pm. Entry is free.
Expect hand spun Shewa textiles, clay jebenas, carved wood homeware, and small batch holiday pieces sold straight from the makers. It is a calmer stop for Enkutatash shopping, and the money goes right to local craftspeople.
The venue sits along the Arat Kilo / Kazanchis corridor. Parking gets tight around midday, so ride share is usually the easier move if you are coming later in the day.
