Addis Ababa architect-turned-designer Bezawit “Beza” Tibebu is getting fresh attention for her experimental collection Addis Raw — pieces that pull the city’s buildings into wearable form.
Beza started in architecture, then moved that same eye for lines and structure onto clothes. With her label Tibebu Collection she works local handwoven fabrics into sharp modern shapes, so Ethiopian textiles don’t just look “traditional” — they sit in a contemporary wardrobe.
Addis Raw is the clearest version of that idea. Instead of copying landmarks like a postcard, she breaks them down — geometry into pattern, structure into how a garment is built. The collection went to African Fashion Week London, and the brand has also been picked up in Vogue Italia and Vogue USA.
Nice reminder that fashion coming out of Addis can be conceptual and still feel very Ethiopian. Buildings become silhouettes, and the city basically walks the runway.
