Legendary Ethiopian singer Mahmoud Ahmed just announced his 26th and final studio album, Le Tarik — “For History.” He shared the news at a press conference at the Sheraton Addis on August 26.
After nearly 60 years shaping Ethiopian music, Mahmoud says this one is about passing the melody and spirit of our music to the young generation. The album mixes modern instruments with traditional kignit sounds — some new songs, some nostalgic — talking about love, life, and values.
A single is expected around Enkutatash (Ethiopian New Year), and the full album should drop by end of September on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and other platforms. Yisakal Entertainment is coordinating the release with an international distributor.
Mahmoud already gave his last public stage show last year. Le Tarik feels like his last big gift to Ethiopian music fans at home and in the diaspora.
